ON EVANGELISM: KINGDOM SEED FUND
Statistics available to us indicate that as at the inauguration of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland, there exist 31No. Churches with 7No. Chapels. Against these statistics, the geographical area covered by the Diocese presents veritable opportunity for evangelism. Indeed the Diocesan VISION holds the Great Commission at a high esteem.
We are simply and irrevocably committed to Evangelism) Mission and Outreach. In particular we 'will be given to Church Planting as a means of reaching the unreached and the lost and bringing salvation to the world in general and every corner of the Diocese in particular.
Clearly for us in the Diocese) Church Planting is bound to be an expensive affair. This is because for every church planting) we may have to acquire existing buildings and demolish to provide the requisite land space. This no doubt will be capital intensive.
We have therefore decided to borrow a leaf from our sister Diocese the Diocese of Lagos West to adopt - what in that Diocese is known as the "COVENANT SEED" collections) re-package it and hereby introduce in the Diocese of Lagos Mainland the KINGDOM SEED Scheme to be used solely for church planting purposes. The scheme which will take off from January 1) 2007) will operate on a platform of a foundation to be known as The MISSION AND OUTREACH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION wholly owned by the Diocese of Lagos Mainland. After extensive consultations, a 5No. member of Administrators will be constituted.
Under the scheme, every member of each church in the Diocese will be called upon to be a ~artner in Mission and Outreach) with Christ and to give a minimum of Five Hundred naira (N500.00) only per month to the scheme. Collections will be on Church basis with opportunity for this being given every Sunday. Members will be free to pay for a year once, if they so desire, and even more than the minimum. Every Archdeaconry will be expected to have a sub-committee of the Archdeaconry Board to be charged with the supervision of collection from churches in the Archdeaconry for onward transmission to the Diocesan Headquarters, where d1e MISSION & OUTREACH DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE will supervise all collections and administer the funds solely for church planting and outreaches. |
