On Wednesday August 23, 2006, the Most Revd. Peter J. Akinola DD, CON, Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, inaugurated the Diocese of Lagos Mainland as the 95th Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). This was in a solemn and well attended service, which also saw us enthroned as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland.

We seize this opportunity to express profound gratitude first, to God the Almighty for His enablement that made the creation of the Diocese a reality on the third attempt. We trust in God to build up the Diocese into a PRAYING and WITNESSING one and strong in the WORD of God. Next we thank our fathers in God of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) for their diverse, invaluable contributions in facilitating the creation of the Diocese and our election as the pioneer Bishop. We covet their prayers as we settle down to expand the frontiers of God's Kingdom, making the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) even more visible as well as empowering the people of God in the Diocese to walk daily with Christ. We recognize the invaluable role played by our 'mother' Diocese - the Diocese of Lagos in making our 'birth' a most pleasant one from all considerations. We cherish the personal interest and commitment of the Most Revd. (Dr.) E. Adebola Ademowo, the Bishop, Diocese of Lagos and the Archbishop, ecclesiastical Province of Lagos.

Our good people of God in the Diocese of Lagos Mainland have all performed excellently well in their commitment and many contributions in cash and kind that had brought us tl1US far. We are determined to build on the very solid foundation that has been laid for our Diocese. Please pray for us always.
